BooknutNancy's 100-word story for November 13, 2025

BooknutNancy wrote the following micro-story on Hectalex on November 13, 2025. Each story on Hectalex is inspired by a daily visual prompt and must be exactly 100 words.

Every year, we come home and trudge up the mountain to visit Grandma. She holds the family together, as best she can, from her place behind the wrought iron fencing, overlooking her beloved hills. I remember when Grandpa was alive and how different it was, his anger and meanness dominating any space he occupied, while we all tiptoed around and Grandma pretended everything was fine. He's gone now, though. It's a beautiful summer morning on the mountain. The mists are clearing, and the day holds promise. We lay flowers at Grandma's grave, clean brush from the stone, and head away.
