“She’s just down here,” said the nurse, leading him down the path. George knew the facility, but he was a rule follower so he didn’t fuss. Amber was on a chair on the hillside, the sun highlighting a peaceful, content smile. “Amber, you have a visitor,” said the nurse. Amber turned to look at the pair, her eyes lighting up at the sight of George. He slid his hand into his pocket, palmed the ring. This will be the thirty-seventh time he’s proposed. He knows she won’t remember, but it doesn’t matter. He would do it a thousand times more.
