magisternihil's 100-word story for November 16, 2025

magisternihil wrote the following micro-story on Hectalex on November 16, 2025. Each story on Hectalex is inspired by a daily visual prompt and must be exactly 100 words.

In his normal, boring everyday life Chester was an accountant, spending his days looking at figures, life all properly plotted out on spreadsheets and ledgers. It made sense. It was orderly. But he always felt like something was missing, like in some corner of his brain there was something else just waiting to leap out, if only for a short while. Then the town festival came along, and his brother Henry was too ill to be the Bubble Beast of Ballystock. Chester agreed to stand in, just this once. Why not? Seven years later he was happily still standing in.
