She roamed the entirety of the United States in her decked-out little love bug, taking jobs whenever she needed money - diners, thrift shops, farms, wherever she could get paid for a few weeks hard graft. She would never call when she came to visit, we would just hear the car puttering down the long drive and suddenly our world was all Aunt Doris for a week or two, while Dad to gave he car a tune up and oil change. And then she’d be off again. “See you soon, kiddo,” she would say, and then life would return to ‘normal.’
