When light finally came and they could assess where they were going, the lovers realized that they had made more ground than they thought they would. Cautious inklings of hope spread through the young couple. They might just make it! It was still early yet, but his father was surely waking for the heavy day of work. Hers would sleep another few hours and then make ready for the day's plans. They kept their fingers crossed and wishes on the wind that neither would realize they had gone. Yes they had gone a good distance, but it wasn't quite enough.
