They couldn't believe their luck. At the edge of the forest they found an unattended hot air balloon. They waited around for about an hour waiting to see if it's owner would show up and whether it was worth stealing something to save them from the fates that was waiting back home for them. It was the sound of hounds in behind them in the distance that made the decision for them. Without further hesitation, their pair ran across the open field and decided to take their chances. They removed the anchors, hopped into the basket, and away they went.
