A mouse in the wood pile was what started the game. “Do you think he lives in there?” Robin had asked her father. “It’s possible,” her father had replied, “But he wouldn’t be the only one.” That was the game then, populating the pile with occupants, like the Wood Louse family in #7, or the Garter Snake in the basement (it’s okay, she’s vegetarian, everyone is safe). But of course it was the robin’s nest they found built into an accidental nook that guaranteed this tenement building would not, as her father had warned, be burned for heat this winter.
