magisternihil's 100-word story for December 1, 2025

magisternihil wrote the following micro-story on Hectalex on December 1, 2025. Each story on Hectalex is inspired by a daily visual prompt and must be exactly 100 words.

It was a week ago when he had stood here, staring at this empty space, and lamented that his peace would soon be broken by the arrival of family. It had been a selfish cling to solitude, he knew. And now he was on the other side of it, back to an empty house. Nicola’s little feet no longer stumble a circle around the coffee table, her little hands clutching everything. Tyler and Cody aren’t shouting about the video game. No singing in the kitchen. No boisterous football match outside. He took a deep breath. Christmas would be here soon.
