magisternihil's 100-word story for December 3, 2025

magisternihil wrote the following micro-story on Hectalex on December 3, 2025. Each story on Hectalex is inspired by a daily visual prompt and must be exactly 100 words.

After his grandfather’s funeral, lawyers contacted Theo and told him about the building, not only that it existed, but that it was now his. He had never heard mention of it from anyone in the family, and now he stood staring up at the overly decorative facade. He walked through the lobby, took the elevator to the top as instructed, and found them: the books, the trinkets, the treasures the rest of the family had been combing the old man’s house for, each wanting to stake their claim on something. Theo smiled. “Guess he did like me best after all.”
