magisternihil's 100-word story for December 12, 2025

magisternihil wrote the following micro-story on Hectalex on December 12, 2025. Each story on Hectalex is inspired by a daily visual prompt and must be exactly 100 words.

Water lapped at his face, coaxing him from sleep that fought tooth and nail to keep hold of him, but lost to the sudden fear of drowning. Roger opened his eyes and immediately regretted the introduction of light. Where was he? And why were his pants wet? His eyes adjusted slowly and the pier came into view, as did the knowledge that the water was slowly becoming deeper. He sat up, regretted it, but knew he couldn’t lie down again. Begrudgingly, he pushed himself to his feet in the wet sand. That’s the last time he does “one more shot.”
