Voices nearby woke him with a start, and it was a full minute of feeling the gentle rock from a passing boat before he remembered he was in a city, not moored on a remote bend where the towpath had few visitors. He looked out the porthole to see the photographer look up from her camera with surprise, then wave her hand as if to push his head down. He waved back, eliciting a frown, then backed away laughing. That’s the problem with living on a beautiful boat moored in a picturesque setting. Sometimes your home is the perfect backdrop.
