magisternihil's 100-word story for December 28, 2025
magisternihil wrote the following micro-story on Hectalex on December 28, 2025. Each story on Hectalex is inspired by a daily visual prompt and must be exactly 100 words.
“Mommy, is she a ghost?” asked the little girl. “No, sweetie, she’s a horticulturist,” said her mother, and they walked on. Poppy smiled at the overheard conversation. She knew the moisture on the glass distorted the image of those inside. She had often walked by and imagined her coworkers were ethereal visitors roaming between the rows of sprouts. She wanted to catch up to the two and tell the little girl to keep asking questions, keep her sense of wonder and curiosity as she grows, just as Poppy had. But there were plants to be repotted and so little time.
