magisternihil's 100-word story for January 3, 2026

magisternihil wrote the following micro-story on Hectalex on January 3, 2026. Each story on Hectalex is inspired by a daily visual prompt and must be exactly 100 words.

My legs are burning but I persevere, because my friend assures me the view from the top is remarkable. “You can see for miles. I can show you everywhere from a bird’s eye view. Trust me on this.” I know it’s too foggy. We’re climbing up through a cloud, for crying out loud, but I can’t resist the enthusiasm of his promises. As we reach the summit and look out over the sea of white I prepare myself for his apologies. Instead, he points, and the mists slowly clear as the wide expanse of the world is revealed below us.
