magisternihil's 100-word story for January 18, 2026

magisternihil wrote the following micro-story on Hectalex on January 18, 2026. Each story on Hectalex is inspired by a daily visual prompt and must be exactly 100 words.

Life is safer up here, simpler. The priests bring me food and otherwise leave me alone to my studies. It’s perfect for me. I cannot join their order, something about birthright, but they seem to be more than happy to let me occupy these quarters, to while away my hours in solitude with nothing but books to keep me company. One day I’ll go back down, walk the streets, commune with the population who look and move as ants from my vantage point. I wonder if their behavior will be any less myrmecine, but memory tells me it will not.
