magisternihil's 100-word story for January 27, 2026

magisternihil wrote the following micro-story on Hectalex on January 27, 2026. Each story on Hectalex is inspired by a daily visual prompt and must be exactly 100 words.

“Every Sunday morning as he’s preparing for his service the vicar has pie and tea because it sounds like piety.” That’s the story. A bad pun told about an interesting picture. Who needs 100 words when you can nail it in twenty? And now I’m drinking tea, mourning the absence of pie, especially a meringue like in the picture. Breakfast pie would be amazing. In a lemon meringue, is the meringue supposed to somehow cut the sourness of the lemon, or is it just more sugar? I’m sure the vicar could find a metaphor in that, somehow. They always do.
