magisternihil's 100-word story for February 3, 2026

magisternihil wrote the following micro-story on Hectalex on February 3, 2026. Each story on Hectalex is inspired by a daily visual prompt and must be exactly 100 words.

When my Gamma said I was free to explore, she never warned me about the door at the top of the short stairs. And good thing, too, because that’s where I met my new friends. I always go and see them when we visit, and we play ball, or a game called “Tiddlywinks” though sometimes the winks go between the floorboards and that makes Sally Squints sad. It’s always fun. One day I heard the grown-ups talking. Uncle Dermot said I shouldn’t be allowed up there, but Gamma told him, “Those people aren’t dangerous anymore,” and he let it go.
