“He’s been painting them ever since he was found,” said Nurse Eric. “We haven’t had much luck finding out why.” “Can I speak with him alone?” asked Nicola. “Maybe he’ll feel less confronted one-on-one.” Eric nodded and gestured at the patient’s back. “Good luck. He doesn’t speak.” When he was out of earshot Nicola sat on the bench. “Chaz, I’ve seen your paintings. They’re very vivid, almost realistic.” Chaz nodded. “I know that because when I escaped them their eyes were all I could remember, too,” she said. Chaz turned, eyes wide and smiled for the first time in weeks.
