“Check out that one,” said Janie. “Ah, there they are, I wondered who they would be this year,” said Prim as the person in the Big Bird costume passed. “No one knows who that is, but they race every year.” “Always in a costume?” Prim nodded. “Never wins, never comes in last. Last year they were Barney the dinosaur. The year before, um, what’s that cartoon character with the triangular head?” “Phineas?” “That’s the one.” “Why the costume?” asked Janie. “Nobody knows,” Prim said, fighting the urge to wave to her husband. She knew he couldn’t see past the beak.
