JKWriter's 100-word story for March 9, 2026

JKWriter wrote the following micro-story on Hectalex on March 9, 2026. Each story on Hectalex is inspired by a daily visual prompt and must be exactly 100 words.

Every flat looked the same in every building in every block of every city...the interlocking barriers that covered the windows had been placed to keep the occupants in and the devastated atmosphere out. This was the price that inhabitants pay for not respecting their planet. There wasn't a single natural whiff of oxygen anywhere. All that kept them alive was the chemically engineered version which was being piped directly into the the buildings that covered this world. The windows allowed the sunlight in, but kept the toxic rays from decimating their flesh with the intense heat of the sun.
