“You’ll have fun, I promise,” said Clara. She pulled him by the hand to the line and forced him to join in. She had a surprising amount of strength for a twelve-year-old, her willpower overcoming her tiny frame. Freddie stood and watched the wheel go round and round and noted every grind of metal on metal, every shudder of the enormous structure. He hoped since she was two years older she knew things he didn’t. “Once we get up top you can see for miles,” she said. He hoped she was right. This would be a dumb way to die.
