magisternihil's 100-word story for March 29, 2026

Meemaw’s chair occupied the corner in her smoke-filled living room, a throne surrounded by flea market merchandise and disappointment. “You ain’t got the common sense God gave a mule,” was one of her favorite aphorisms. It kept close company with other nuggets of wisdom. “He’s as skittish as a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs!” “He ain’t gonna amount to much. Dumber than dirt!” When she passed away all I asked for was the chair. Everyone laughed at me, but let me have it. They didn’t know that I knew that was where she hid her money.
