magisternihil's 100-word story for April 3, 2026
magisternihil wrote the following micro-story on Hectalex on April 3, 2026. Each story on Hectalex is inspired by a daily visual prompt and must be exactly 100 words.
People find fog to be ominous, blocking the view, making everything mysterious and foreboding, but they’re more shortsighted than they claim the rolling mist makes them. Sure, anything could be out there—whole new worlds, pathways opened allowing a crossover that may be irreversible, creatures hungry for fresh food—but the reality is, like when you turn out the lights, everything is just where you left it, only obfuscated. So, go ahead. Take a walk on a misty morning. Don’t worry that the path feels different. Ignore the howling. It’s just a regular day. Nothing to worry about. Ever again.
