joeislove's 100-word story for May 8, 2025

joeislove wrote the following micro-story on Hectalex on May 8, 2025. Each story on Hectalex is inspired by a daily visual prompt and must be exactly 100 words.

My kids don't remember the world in color. The scientists say the colors are still there, that we lost the ability to see them. That feels impossible to believe as I sit here in Jack's Diner, trying to remember how that little plant on the table must look. I know it felt like cool air and summer breezes. I vaguely remember there were different kinds of green, but everything is just a shade of grey now. But maybe that changes soon if that weird old guy, supposedly a scientist, from the internet can be believed. Where is he? He's late.
