Even though it was stories away, that first "GLOING" of a basketball used to hit his ears like a snare drum, signaling a day's worth of percussion. Everyone claimed they didn't hear it any more, but there was no way that noise wasn't as distracting for the whole building as it was for him. But then Covid came along and the noise stopped. The shouts, the laughs, the boastful taunts, and that dreaded snare hit, all cut short. He never realized you could miss a sound you hated. The first time he heard it again he couldn't help but cry.
