magisternihil's 100-word story for April 10, 2026
magisternihil wrote the following micro-story on Hectalex on April 10, 2026. Each story on Hectalex is inspired by a daily visual prompt and must be exactly 100 words.
The old man casts his line, mumbles a small summoning mantra under his breath, and waits. It helps to keep quiet, or if there has to be noise, make it low and steady, like a heartbeat keeping pace with the ticking clock back up at the house, each segment of the circle dropping into the basket, until enough weight gathers to tear another square from the wall. He feels a pull on the line, a slight tug, a suggestion of a capture, and he slowly reels it in, curious what will be revealed when the water surrenders the daily catch.
