Jack stolen, the stag in his sights. Practice told him to take the shot, but instinct froze his finger. It was majestic, its antlers almost as tall as its body, and it stared right at him as if daring him to fire. Something in its eyes told hold of Jack. Those eyes! He couldn’t tear his gaze away from them. Even without the scope he could see them clearly, and they could see him, deep within him, right to his pitiful soul. Jack laid the gun on the ground and walked away. Perhaps hunting was not for him after all.
