Speculation is rife about the owner of the boots. Was it a man walking home from a work site, back aching, feet tormented by the thin soles? Did he stop to take them off, deciding in that moment his work was done as he kept walking without them? Maybe they’re remnants of a scavenger hunt, cast aside as two participants realized they both ticked the same box, their quest shifting to seek a rubber duck or a kazoo. Or perhaps it was (as Jeff keeps insisting) spontaneous combustion, a clear indication he understands little of thermodynamics. We may never know.
