“Now class, please give a warm welcome to Tobias Taylor, the Prince of—ooh, that’s a big one—the Prince of Prestidigitation!” She turned to give him a judgmental frown, making it clear he would need to work on the into. The children all clapped wildly as the teacher yielded the floor. Toby stepped forward, his smile as bright as the fluorescent lights. “Who wants to see a card trick?” Thirty-one hands shot up. Toby went to shuffle the cards and sent them flying into the crowd. He learned long ago that kids loved it when things went horribly wrong.
