The screams from the other roller coaster pummeled Charlie’s ears, taunting him with the fun he could be having. “Isn’t this fun, Charlie!” she shouted. She slapped his arm and giggled. “Thrilling,” he answered without enthusiasm. He looked down and saw her eyes beaming up at him, filled with wonder and glee. He remembered that feeling. He missed it. “We’d better watch out for train robbers, Gilly,” he said, changing his face to match hers. He felt the change happen inside as well. “Robbers? Here?” She looked around incredulous. “Everywhere,” he warned. Together they hunched down to prepare their defense.
