magisternihil's 100-word story for May 18, 2026
magisternihil wrote the following micro-story on Hectalex on May 18, 2026. Each story on Hectalex is inspired by a daily visual prompt and must be exactly 100 words.
The chicken cart. I knew it was my fate, but something in me hoped I could avoid it. Everyone knows the rule: last one in gets the chicken cart. Anyone coming your way has the path. You have to get as far out of the way as you can as quickly as you can, then press the chicken. Its mournful, gallinaceous cry is your mark of shame. The entire day, you are the joke. It’s no wonder everyone comes in ridiculously early. If not for traffic I would be chicken cart-free and laughing at another poor fool. But today, squaaaaaaaaaawk!
