There, he thought, now the woodland creatures will know that my intentions are good. Sure I had to cut a lot of trees to be able to build my cabin, but now I have a place to live where I can be a good friend to the animals. Putting away his saws, he thought back to the old lady from the crossroads he'd passed on his way earlier. The way she'd pointed her long crooked finger at him and said, "If you go into these woods you will be sorry." He looked around, breathed deeply. "Well, shows what she knows!"
