magisternihil's 100-word story for May 29, 2026

magisternihil wrote the following micro-story on Hectalex on May 29, 2026. Each story on Hectalex is inspired by a daily visual prompt and must be exactly 100 words.

They say taller you are, the longer your dreams. It’s nonsense, of course, but you know how it goes. If something sounds ludicrous enough to be believable it bears repeating. Height has nothing to do with dreams. It’s soul density. Some people have wisps of thought for souls, barely discernible in the nighttime air. Others are as thick as mountain fog and cannot be contained, stretching up and out to fill the air well beyond the confines of the body. That’s why Great Aunt Beatrice whispers “Ow!” every time she walks through the entrance. It’s also why you do not.
