joeislove wrote the following micro-story on Hectalex on June 2, 2026. Each story on Hectalex is inspired by a daily visual prompt and must be exactly 100 words.

VR is so over. The kids are rejecting the fake reality in the 3D worlds constructed by marketing councils and AI pitchbots. At first we thought it was great. "Finally," we thought, "They'll experience the true perfect immersive 3D experience by just... going outside." But then we saw what they were doing out there. They're calling it "getting flat" and it's all about a 2D experience. They spend all day constructing these scenes, filming them with drones. I suppose every generation ends up thinking their kids' trends are silly and crazy, right? Oh well, at least they're going outside. Right?
