magisternihil's 100-word story for June 6, 2026

magisternihil wrote the following micro-story on Hectalex on June 6, 2026. Each story on Hectalex is inspired by a daily visual prompt and must be exactly 100 words.

At night, when no one is watching, that’s when trees dance. Don’t think you can sneak out and watch, hiding in the bushes like a thief in the night. They don’t need eyes to see you, and anyway, who do you think the bushes will favor in a conflict? The dance is quicker than you would think. Sure, some trees have been around for hundreds of years, but that doesn’t mean they will move slowly. It just means they’ve had lots of practice. So that odd noise you hear outside? Probably an oak cutting a rug. Go back to sleep.
