magisternihil's 100-word story for June 7, 2026

magisternihil wrote the following micro-story on Hectalex on June 7, 2026. Each story on Hectalex is inspired by a daily visual prompt and must be exactly 100 words.

I always wondered about Aunt Edna’s 8-Track collection that held pride-of-place on her shelves for so many years. Every time I offered to move them to make room for books she told me to leave them alone. Never saw an 8-Track player in her house. Never heard her listen to any music at all. Finally, towards her end, I asked her again why she kept them. “They’re Walter’s,” she said, her voice raspy and quiet. “He’ll want to listen when we meet again soon.” After she died I went to pack them up, but they were nowhere to be found.
