"Oh, if only nothing happened more often," he whispered to himself. Too much had gone on, too much time had passed, and the family wouldn't recover for decades...or longer because of it. Siblings weren't speaking to each other and the parents were getting too old to act as referees in the rivalry that in a way they helped create. Gregory could see the error of his ways plainly, now, but when he was a young father with young children...he hasn't known choices he made then would still impact his kids all these years later...and years to come.
