As cryptids go, Peepers hardly embodied the terrifying menace of the Chupacabra or the elegant charm of Nessie, but it was ours and no one could take that away from us. I heard a couple of kids talking one day, you know the kind, brash and full of opinions. They were calling Peepers “lame,” said it wasn’t even that scary. But you try walking through the countryside and suddenly seeing two massive eyeballs floating nearby that follow you as you go. No sound, just endless, unblinking staring. It’s enough to send a person into a panicked run, that’s for sure!
