joeislove's 100-word story for June 16, 2026

joeislove wrote the following micro-story on Hectalex on June 16, 2026. Each story on Hectalex is inspired by a daily visual prompt and must be exactly 100 words.

They're on the roof now. Watching. Waiting. When the Great Monkey Escape of 2026 (as I'm sure we'll all be calling it in a few years, when we can finally laugh about it) happened, we scrambled to lock the building down. But those dang monkeys are fast as hell, let me tell you. They made it out the windows while we were busy locking all the doors. Apparently they had learned how to open the windows from watching us do it from their cages. And somehow taught others to do it. I'm honestly kind of proud of the little bastards.
