Day 27 Our captors believe they have us contained, defeated. We have lost seven so far in attempts to flee this compound they put us in. Seven lives lost. The first week my people came to me asking for me to do something. Now they come asking how many need to die for me to have courage. “It is done,” I tell them. They smile, knowing. The soldier thinks little of the tiny red elephant I left for him. I can see it. Soon, he will be our salvation as he becomes our release. It needs but the slightest touch.
