Nothing like going overboard in rough seas with twenty-foot swells to make you appreciate your mates. It was all I could do to keep my head above water. Every time the water crashed down around my ears, I would get pushed under and I would have to struggle my way up again. It was so hard to know for sure I was even swimming up, to be honest. And I'd break the surface just long enough to gulp down another lungful of precious air and down again I'd go. Then, like the hand of God, I saw it. My salvation.
