magisternihil's 100-word story for June 19, 2026

magisternihil wrote the following micro-story on Hectalex on June 19, 2026. Each story on Hectalex is inspired by a daily visual prompt and must be exactly 100 words.

It started as a joke, or rather a hastily made-up explanation that shouldn’t have been taken seriously. The neighbors had been on me to cut my grass, even going so far as sending letters. Two of them happened to be coming by to complain when they witnessed me tripping over a tangle and falling flat on my face, arms outstretched. “It’s my religion,” I joked, “and I’m required to worship the grass twice daily.” I never thought they’d take me seriously, but now three other houses have overgrown lawns. Guess I’d better invest in some ceremonial robes. Or a lawnmower.
