magisternihil wrote the following micro-story on Hectalex on June 20, 2026. Each story on Hectalex is inspired by a daily visual prompt and must be exactly 100 words.
Call it dastardly, even evil. Sheriff Walker calls it profitable. Other towns have speed traps, sudden drops in the speed limit with a deputy hidden just out of sight. But Summerdale has discrepancies. “No Parking” signs in parking lots, “One Way” signs pointing toward each other at opposite ends of a lane, and his favorite, the “No Fishing” sign on the bridge named after Myron Fishing, the town’s former mayor. Most people just pay the fine out of frustration. Summerdale is a long way from anything, too far to come back. That’s why it’s the richest town in the state.
