magisternihil's 100-word story for June 26, 2026

magisternihil wrote the following micro-story on Hectalex on June 26, 2026. Each story on Hectalex is inspired by a daily visual prompt and must be exactly 100 words.

The boats are ready. Now all we need is the competitors. The Challenge is simple: a race to the other shore and back. Granted, those cretins on the other side will be trying to stop them from grabbing some proof they were there—an unmistakably blood-red stone from the shore is a classic choice and one which involves little risk—and some of our five might not make it back this way, but that’s the risk they run for glory. If all five make it back, there will be celebrations and it will be a good year. Especially for them.
