magisternihil's 100-word story for July 2, 2026

magisternihil wrote the following micro-story on Hectalex on July 2, 2026. Each story on Hectalex is inspired by a daily visual prompt and must be exactly 100 words.

It’s moments like this, with no walkers shouting after dogs or children on the tow path, no narrowboats chug-chugging at their leisurely pace down the cut, and my kayak bobbing gently on the mirror surface, that everything comes up idyllic. Look at those trees so fascinated by the gentle water that they’re leaning down for a kiss. What if they kept going, reached deep down among the lost eyeglasses and windlasses on the bottom, and left me in a tunnel of natural bliss? I blink, taking a mental picture, and split the glass with my oar. Time to move on.
