Got the place for a dream. They nearly paid me to take it. There was no electricity or running water when I moved in. How could there be? Whoever had decided to build a church so far from civilization clearly hadn’t done any research or they would have realized the number of parishioners wouldn’t be any more than nil. It was a year in when the pilgrims started appearing, needy and breathless on my stoop. They didn’t notice the solar panels, the piping run from the mountain stream. They just wanted guidance. So, anyway, that’s how I became a priest.
