Erik's 100-word story for May 14, 2025

Erik wrote the following micro-story on Hectalex on May 14, 2025. Each story on Hectalex is inspired by a daily visual prompt and must be exactly 100 words.

Sandra's parents were injury lawyers. They met in the 80s when they faced one another over a negligence case involving a broken Boscov's escalator. Turns out things escalated quickly between them, albeit not in the way you'd expect for two adversaries. Mom won the case, which she always holds over Dad's head. But it's alright, they both won the ultimate prize. They started their own practice, but a rouge client took their lives on a rainy night when Sandra was young. All these years later, Sandra refuses to sit on benches that advertise law practices. Her parents' legacy lives on.
