Jackal's 100-word story for May 23, 2025

Jackal wrote the following micro-story on Hectalex on May 23, 2025. Each story on Hectalex is inspired by a daily visual prompt and must be exactly 100 words.

Eddie worked on that plane every day in the back. He would say, "Don't worry, babe, I'll get us out of here soon". But soon never came, at least not soon enough. He spent the good part of two years working on it. Every time he would say "last piece," another would fall off, almost to spite him. At first, I thought it was funny. He would come running into the house and tell me it's nearly done, then come crawling in that night with a new list of parts he needed. Good thing I never really wanted to leave.
