Seventeen minutes past eleven. And all is not well. Things haven't been that great in a while, she thought, staring at her grandmother's alarm clock. A reminder of summers spent at her house as a child, when the chattering ringing of that bell signalled the beginning of a long day spent cooking and tending the garden. She'd hated it then. Now she would give anything to be back on her grandmother's porch in the sweltering heat of August in Georgia, shelling peas and listening to the chirping whirr of a million insects. Sighing, she sat up. "Okay, let's do this."
