Jackal's 100-word story for May 27, 2025

Jackal wrote the following micro-story on Hectalex on May 27, 2025. Each story on Hectalex is inspired by a daily visual prompt and must be exactly 100 words.

The lights went out around two in the morning but it was the silence that followed that scared me the most. It was completely dark and completely silent, not a single sound besides my own. I reached for Angelica’s hand, hoping she was still right next to me. Hoping she hadn’t gotten up before this happened. What I felt wasn’t a hand. What I felt was nothing. No Angelica. No bed. Just nothing. It was completely dark and completely silent and nothing was around me. I couldn’t stand up. I couldn’t even sit up. I was just floating in darkness.
