magisternihil's 100-word story for May 29, 2025

magisternihil wrote the following micro-story on Hectalex on May 29, 2025. Each story on Hectalex is inspired by a daily visual prompt and must be exactly 100 words.

He's been shot seventeen times, and been shot at hundreds. Sometimes his left flank aches from the hunk of metal lodged in there, grinding on bone if he moves in the wrong way. When he runs, dignified and free, the hole in his ear causes an awful whistling to occur. Dreadful! Despite all of the attacks, he still follows his calling, still stands majestic, his antlers raised high. If he had a voice, he knows there would be only one thing he would scream at the top of his lungs: "I'm not your dinner, you idiot, I'm a damn omen!"
